The concept of freedom dates back to the constitutional era in the Iranian intellectual arena; nevertheless, the philosophical reflection on it among Iranian thinkers is a more recent phenomenon. Among recent Iranian thinkers, particularly Morteza Motahari and AbdolKareem Soroush, there have been deeper intellectual conflicts in terms of the issue of freedom. What are the similarities and differences between the two thinkers regarding freedom question? How Motahari and Soroush define freedom? What are dimensions and limits of freedom from the perspective of these two thinkers? The findings of this article suggest that Motahari is confronted with the issue of freedom with theological assumptions, and therefore, he considers freedom as the existence of freedom and will in the human being, which is necessary for human spiritual excellence. The other thinker, Soroush, considers modern liberal assumptions (in particular favoring a positivist methodology and pluralistic ontology) and distinguishes freedom as the highest human value. At the same time, both thinkers, under the influence of Islamic and mystical beliefs, identify two dimensions for freedom: internal freedom and external freedom. Evidently, Motahari emphasizes more on internal freedom while Soroush's emphasis is on external freedom. Meanwhile, both thinkers believe, Sharia (Islamic law) and morality limit freedom.

Currently, there is a number of feminisms including, liberal, socialist, egalitarian, religious seeking difference, secular, radical, and moderate. "We are not faced with feminism, we are faced with feminisms". So, addressing women's critical issues and their widespread entry into the scene of social life, which couldn't be avoidable in any case, is an urgent issue. One of the main barriers to achieve the women's movement attainment to the minimum desirable demands over the course of the three hundred years of struggle, has been that, the commitment to Pure Experimental Science and separation from Faith has depleted the main source of moral responsibility. Feminist Theologians attempt to revitalize accountability with the aid of faith. This article, inspired by a Simmelian perspective in the social sciences research method, seeks to provide inspirational types for the construction and future of feminist theory. This attempt, has ultimately resulted in eight types of feminisms. A case study of a recent "Acid attack motivated by love" in Iran, indicates the fruitfulness of the resulted typology.

Instead, he assumes an interaction and believes both factors of individual and society play role in knowing subjects and issues. In this paper, in order to know Shariati's approach to the issue, we will use Morteza Motahhari's perspective to examine the Shariati's approach to the subject. For this purpose, documentary research method has been used.

This efforts have intensified by introduction of sustainability and its integration with social participation. In this paper, first, the claim that the central issue in sustainable social development is the concept of dialogue were established using literature review. Mortaza Motahari and Fatemeh Marneisi have put the issue of the Muslim woman in a modern situation in the spotlight; from a Shi'i political jurisprudence perspective and from another Islamic feminist perspective. The present paper examines the views of these two thinkers on the rights of Muslim women, and sets out questions that Motahari and Marannis regard as civil, political, and social rights for Muslim women. What are the similarities and differences between these two thinkers? Research findings show Motahhari considers a woman to be the same as the man in terms of being, thus the right to freedom of conscience and religion, the right to property, the right to education, and equal security (from social rights) and equal suffrage (from Political rights) for women with men, but due to differences in the nature of men and women, different rights with men in the field of inheritance, coverage and divorce law, the right to work (from social rights) and the right to choose The political will (for political rights) is for women. In contrast to Merannis, there is an inseparable equality between men and women, as a result of which all Muslim, social and political rights that can be given to Muslim men are also considered by Muslim women. The basis for the difference between Motahari and Maranni's views can be attributed to their different attitudes toward Islam.

Secondly, based on this approach, past, present, and future of society can be integrated and be seen as the sum of all actions. Thirdly, based on the natural development of individual and society, heavenly impacts associated with them can be acknowledged. And fourth, problems associated with the notion of accepting the authenticity of society while accepting the notion of numerous identities for plurality of individuals and so, can be explained.

The questions of the nature of the Western civilization and the way to confront it have been among important questions for Muslim politicians and thinkers, in the last two centu-ries. In this research, Ayatollah Motahari’s views on the West and the way to deal with it are studied. The main questions in this paper are: can Islamic and Western civilizations bor-row from each other intellectually and is there any limitation in such a borrowing, from Motahari’s view? While he argues that the West’s borrowings from the Islamic civilisation played an important role in the formation of the modern Western civilisation, he believes that the latter suffers from many weaknesses, which are related to its philosophical founda-tions and can also be seen in its political thought and practice. Motahari sees colonialism as the darkest point in the process of exchange between the West and Muslim societies. In principle, he is pessimist about the Western civilisation, though acknowledges its achieve-ments in some aspects such as science and technology and even in the promotion of justice. He does not refute Muslims’ adoption from the West, but renounces any attempt at dissolv-ing Islamic identity within the Western civilisation or following the latter’s deficiencies. He does not see the civilisation as a package that must be adopted or rejected as a whole, nor does he see it an integrated civilization with no differentiation between its constituent soci-eties.

Woman as a symbol of divine Beauty in Imam Khomeini`s thought has a close connection to some high concepts such as freedom, chastity, dignity, the origin of the good, bravery etc. and she has a major influence on the destiny of herself and her society. The woman in the thought of Imam Khomeini (pbuh) not against the man, but beside him, has a significant responsibility in all aspects of personal, social and political life. Aside from a short period in the early Islam, when her true dignity was revived by the Prophet and his family (pbut), the woman was deprived of her true status in all other eras. Findings of this survey shows that Imam Khomeini’s points of view concerning the presence of the woman in the society in two different era of Pahlavi and after Islamic revolution are totally different. In the time of Pahlavi, this presence was not desirable because of the situation of that period, like hijab prohibition, which made it impossible for women to reach their real status. But the revolutionary movements of women during the formation of Islamic revolution of Iran and imposed war are considered blessing. The attribute of Imam Khomeini had an impressive influence on the social presence of women after revolution. This paper assessing the identity and dignity of the Muslim woman from the viewpoint of Imam Khomeini (pbuh) and the result of such attribute on the social presence of women in various aspects by giving real examples in this respect.

Reviewing the thoughts of those Muslim philosophers who have political debates about city shows that their discussions about virtuous city will finally come to two ends of spectrum; either homelessness (isolation) or cosmopolitan (vagabondage). In one hand, virtuous man is nurtured in virtuous city and in other hand, the non-virtuous city prevents man from having virtue and virtuous man is forced to go out of city. Farabi, while discusses different kinds of non-virtuous cities to bespeak the possibility of virtuous city, suggest the "virtuous planet". He divides societies into small, middle and big sized, and prescribes the transition from living in a city to cosmopolitan; virtuous planet is a big gathering of all societies all over the earth that is directed by one leader based on virtuous actions. The significant point in this kind of philosophizing is that two spectrum of homelessness and cosmopolitan are suggested for virtuous man. This view toward social life continues among philosophers such as Avicenna, Suhrewardi, Ibn Bajja (Avempace) and Ibn Tofail (Abubacer Aben Tofail). Nevertheless, al-Farabi's thought about non-virtuous cities recognizes living in a civil society. Focusing on al-Farabi's ideas in this article, above-mentioned issues are discussed by philosophical content analysis method. Keywords: City (Polis), Civil Life, Homelessness (Isolation), Cosmopolitan (Vagabondage), al-Farabi.

Society-based thinking in every period is influenced by the conditions of the society, and it is closely correlated with social institutions and social problems. During the Ghajarid Period, various religious and political factors paved the way for the pronounced presence of Shiite ulema in the society and in the government. Among the distinguished Muslim scholars, Seyyed Jafar Darabi Kashfi was a religious jurisprudent and a theoretician who was interested in social theories dealing with the ways to rule on the basis of Islamic faith during the Ghajarid government. In his books, Tohfat-ol-Moluk and Mizan-ol-Moluk, he focuses on social theories in order to describe the society, Moreover, he focuses on individual and family affairs in order to portray an ideal society for a ruler. The present study describes how the ulema were politically influential during the Ghajarid Period, and in particular, it deals with Kashfi's social theories. Findings show that Kashfi tried to outline the individual as well as social life in the light of ethical and religious teachings in an effort to base the society on reason and justice. His ultimate goal was to create a utopia, and to this end, he focused on the relationships among individuals in the society, and he discussed in detail the relationship between the government and the society in the one hand, and the relationship between the social life and various virtues for happiness both in this world and in the Hereafter.

Along with being "Islamic", being "Public" (Márdomi) is among the most important distinctive features of the Islamic Revolution. This study aimed at Ali Sháriati's stance on the notion of People in comparison with Mortáza Motáhari's. These two thinkers had a great deal of philosophical and sociological debates on such concepts as "The Individual", "Society", "History", and "Nās" in their works. However, due to practical involvement in revolutionary campaigns, they had to deal with the notion of "People" not as an abstract issue and not as the object of philosophical-sociological theorizations, but as the ordinary common people considering their role in plans for change in the current order or establishment of the new order. Seemingly, Shariati was preoccupied most in the problem of people-intellectual and had a twofold stance toward people: from one hand, he considered people as an absolute standard to assess all the social and the religious issues including God, the Prophet, worship, art, and the like. On the other hand, he selectively distinguished between the "Semi-human" and the "thirsty for faith and the deep desirer for the epoch of human equality" and put the latter at the heart of his plan for social evolution. Instead, Motahari focused most on the problem of people-religion and challenged the application of the notion of "the miserable" (Mostázáf) to ordinary people asserting that the miserable was not the same as the believer (Mômen). He assumed "good deed" (Ámal-e-Sāleh) as the criterion to assess ordinary people instead of miserableness. The study utilized documentary research method as well as reviewing the text of these two thinker's works.

Poverty is a multi-meanings concept which has underwent conceptual modifications in different ages. In the current study we seek to review some poverty studies since the rise of Islam in Iran. Our data are collected and analyzed using literary writings and historical texts. The selected texts were classified based on four general themes, namely Sufism, ethics, teaching, and fotowwat writings (letters on chivalry). In particular, we used a text-based historical method to analyze the gathered data. The findings indicate that there are some interrelated and synonymous concepts for poverty which are difficult to understand without considering its various meanings. In addition, we found historical connotations of the concept of poverty. According to the results, the nature of poverty can be interpreted and classified into two categories: virtues and vices. Our results also suggest that poverty is mainly understood as a cultural interpretation. It is a conceptual chain that carries many ethical meanings including piety, abstinence, contentment, and deliverance. As a result, the removal of poverty requires such a cultural understanding.

This seriously need a standardized model of religious sources. Therefore, This study aims is to extract and elaborate the agency pattern of the social influence of religion relying on the teachings of the Qur'an and using the content quality analysis and grounded theory. The findings show that the obtained pattern has two practical and theoretical dimensions. The theoretical indicators include expertise, knowledge of the (cultural, social, economic, political and international) conditions, recognition of the audience and recognition of the personal roles. Practical indicators include faith, fidelity, confidence in the presentation, endurance and sustainability and coordination with the audience. Results reveal that there is a direct relationship between the social influence of the religion and the degree of their proximity and similarity with the pattern of social influence agency of the religion in the teachings of the Qur'an through each of the agents; so that the more proximity and similarity are, the more social influence of the religion is and the less proximity and similarity are, the less social influence of the religion is.

Before the coronation of the Second Pahlavi, religious literature rarely noted the concept of Fitrah. After coronation of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi in September 1941, however, the term and its theorizations found wider recognition in those magazines and newspapers aimed at promoting religious ideas. Gradually, Fitrah became a key concept in two significant ways: making a case for religion against criticisms raised by Marxists and secular critics of religion on one hand, and criticizing reactionary and superstitious interpretations of the religion on the other. Hence, Fitrah became so significant a tool in socio-religious struggles that it was called “the mother of all problems” of Islam by Morteza Motahari right before the Islamic Revolution. After the revolution, however, its moment was gone and the functions it had in pre-revolution era went obsolete. Thus, again, the concept was marginalized altogether. This paper investigates the socio-religious functions of Fitrah in the Second Pahlavi era.

Abstract Social capital is a contextual concept and religion is one of the most important factors in its investigation. This research tries to provide a picture of social capital in the Islamic society of Iran. The first step towards shaping a framework for the concept is finding an answer to these questions: What is the core of social capital? What is the motivation of the actor to do activities in networks? What are the components (sources) of social capital? In adapting the above framework in the context of Iran, two historical and contemporary aspects are considered. Investigating the social structure of Iran showed that the structural social capital is very weak due to the limited and trivial presence and impact of formal group and networks. The teachings of Islam on the one hand promote and strengthen the sources of social capital and on the other hand approve and recommend its cognitive elements. Contrary to the west, social capital in Iran had been rich and powerful in cognitive terms, and provides the incentives for growth and prosperity. This conclusion also makes it possible to determine the components and techniques of emergence of social capital in the context of Iran.
