Fundamental methodology is a way in which the theory is generated. Given this, Sayyid Qutb’s social knowledge is inspired by Externalism and Ash'ari theology. Furthermore, the necessity of reference to the first generation of Muslims’ Ideas, in a Jihad frame, links his thought to Salafi stream. This paper, employing a documentary research method and following critical approach in description and interpretation levels, retrieves the fundamental methodology of social knowledge adopted by Sayyid Qutb in four realms: 1)the realm of “Idea”('Aghide) in which there is a kind of epistemological mutuality between social structure and people’s Ideas('Aghayed); 2)the realm of “Jihad” in which the theory of social change is pointed out; 3)the realm of “Islamic civilization” in which “the typology of society” is articulated; and 4)the realm of science and culture which from Sayyid Qutb’s opinion, this are has an inherent plurality. In addition, the fundamental methodology used by Sayyid Qutb encompasses a sort of critical approach toward social condition and intellectual schools so that one could be able to articulate this approach with four parameters: “Islamic values and Islamic society”, “elites and social change”, “value and action”(praxis), and “realism”. The prevalence of various social schools, especially the issue of West colonialism as one of the most important non-epistemic grounds based on Sayyid Qutb’s social knowledge, has raised the concern of revival of Islamic civilization for him. The influence of social thought of Sayyid Qutb in the current era has been affecting some Jihad-oriented deeds (Salafi) in the Middle East and, some social events in countries such as Egypt and Syria. The above mentioned observations make a critical review of Sayyid Qutb’s social theory a necessity.

This paper examines the Quranic view concerning explanation of Nefagh (hypocrisy). It is also an attempt to find out if such an explanation can be presented in a theoretical model regarding social science questions. Our findings show that in an integrated model all micro, middle, and macro levels (structural and sub cultural) as well as intercultural variables are used together, in proportion, in noticeable detail, and based on an acceptable logic. The outcome can be described an accurate, valuable, integrated, innovative and inclusive model that shows Quran's close social attention to the different aspects and the causes of Nefagh , as a deviant phenomenon and a social problem in Islamic society. Our research method has the capacity of considering Islamic criteria of text interpretation and provides a valid understanding of Quran's verses in both Islamic and social sciences. In this research, our understandings are documented by valid interpretations of the commentary sources (Tafasir).

The issue of structure and agency has been very important and much debated in social science. It also plays a key role in methodology, theory of power, order and social responsibility discussions. From the other side, among Islamic thinkers, Allama Tabatabai's theory of Etebariat has shown to be an influential contribution regarding the discussion of structure and agency. Allama Tabatabai in his Principles of realism philosophy and Etebariat, introduces the theory of Etebariat which can propound a definition of agency in society, definition of structure and structural characteristics in society. Adding Allama Tabatabai's theory of Etebariat to the discussion of social structure, and putting it beside Gidden’s structuration theory can consolidate and advance it further. Giddens in his revised theory, abandoned the duality of structure and agency, and suggested a reciprocal relationship between structure and agency. In this way, he indicates the role of agent in the creation of structure and the role of structure in the action of agent. This paper, by analyzing Allama's theory of Etebariat as common structural forms in human actions, shows that the discussion of agency and structure in Allama and Giddens has many resemblances in description of structure as common qualities of social agents and also regarding the role of will and agency in this filed.
